COLONELS HOLD OFF PATRIOTS

William Fleming withstood a furious comeback by Patrick Henry to notch a 43-42 Roanoke Valley District victory in girls' basketball Monday night.

Patrick Henry (6-5 overall, 3-4 in the district) trailed 31-19 entering the fourth quarter. The Patriots launched an all-out full-court press and took a two-point lead in the final minute.

William Fleming (9-4, 3-4) then converted a pair of PH turnovers into baskets to regain the lead for good. The Patriots had two shots to win at the end but missed both.

Marqueeta Randolph led William Fleming with 20 points.

Patrick Henry got 12 points from Elisha Jones, 11 from Ashaki Johnson and 10 from Erin Hawley. \

Roanoke Catholic 30

Lynchburg Christian 29

The Celtics rallied from a three-point deficit with 20 seconds left to defeat Lynchburg Christian (8-4, 6-2) in a Blue Ridge Conference game.

Liz Landry scored two of her four points to pull Catholic (10-2, 7-2) to 29-28, and Shannon Simpson, who led the Celtics with 10 points, hit the winning basket. \

Hargrave 50

Stewart Baucom had 15 points and keyed a third-quarter surge as the Raiders earned a Virginia Independent Conference victory over Hargrave Military.

Baucom, who also had eight assists, got North Cross (8-9, 5-4) off and running in the third quarter with a 3-point goal and two free throws to open the period. The Raiders outscored Hargrave 18-10 in the quarter to take control.

Mike Bryan added 13 points for North Cross.

Hargrave Military (6-5, 5-4) was led by DeWayne Swinton who had got 16 points. \
