TOW TRUCK OFTEN CAN HELP IN SAVING LIVES

THIS CONCERNS the news article Jan. 13 about the illegal parking of a tow truck in a residential section.

This truck is a person's source of income. It is also a very useful piece of equipment for law-enforcement agencies, rescue workers, fire departments and the general public - not a zoning violation.

At any time during the day or night, an accident may occur and a tow truck operator may be needed to respond immediately. Occupants of a wrecked vehicle may be trapped in or under a vehicle and a rescue worker may need a tow truck to help free the occupants.

I have responded on several occasions upon the request of local emergency personnel to assist in saving lives with the use of a tow truck. Ask any rescue worker: Seconds could be the difference between life and death. I believe the people saved realize that fact, and so do the lawmakers of Virginia, because a tow truck is considered an emergency vehicle by the state of Virginia and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
