ROANOKE AIRPORT NEEDS COMPETITION
IT IS UNFORTUNATE to see an underused or partially used airport. Many medium-sized cities still are not served at all by some airlines, and the hub system is not workable.People flying from Roanoke or Greensboro should not have to consistently pay more to fly a distance that is shorter than one from a larger metropolitan area. Recently it was more than $100 cheaper to fly from New York to Miami than from Roanoke to Miami, and $106 less to fly to Luxembourg than to Los Angeles from New York under the same restrictions.
Roanoke's airport commission needs to search for low-cost carriers. The word is competition and ridership. HAROLD WILLIAMS JR. MARTINSVILLE
