METALLICA IN CONCERT MARCH 4

Heavy-metal band Metallica will crank up its rafter-rattling sound in the Roanoke Civic Center on March 4 with a 7:30 p.m. show.

The band, which hails from the San Francisco Bay area, won a Grammy last year for its single, "Stone Cold Crazy." But in head-banging circles, Metallica may be better known for its thundering, on-the-edge style. Its latest album, "Metallica," sold 3 million copies in two months after its release last August.

Metallica has also found favor with Rolling Stone magazine, which calls the quartet the kings of thrash metal.

Tickets are $18.50 in advance, $20.50 on the day of the show. They go on sale Saturday at the Roanoke Civic Center box office (981-1201) and all Ticketmaster locations. Tickets may be charged by phone by calling (800) 543-3041. Box office hours are 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Mon.-Sat.
