TEAM TO INVESTIGATE HOSPITALS' FINANCES
Gov. Douglas Wilder has sent five state employees to find out how much money the state's non-profit hospitals are earning, as well as how much they pay their executives, state officials said Tuesday. As part of his effort to promote his proposed tax on health-care providers, Wilder on Monday sent the employees to peruse federal tax forms of acute-care, non-profit hospitals.
The hospitals' tax forms are public information. Wilder has said he will take steps to prevent hospitals and nursing homes from passing on the tax to patients.
