OFFICIAL GETS INITIAL APPROVAL FOR DOCK
The Franklin County Planning Commission on Tuesday gave preliminary approval for a dock at Smith Mountain Lake that Wayne Compton had built without a permit.Compton, Roanoke County commissioner of revenue, said he worked out an agreement with a neighbor whose water access would have been blocked by the dock.
Compton said two adjacent lot owners whose access could be affected have not responded to a letter mailed last week explaining the agreement.
The dock on Compton's lot in the Starwood subdivision violates a county ordinance that prohibits structures from extending more than one-third of the way across a cove.
His request for a variance to the ordinance will go before the county's Board of Zoning Appeals next month. - Staff report
