JUDGES' MEMBERSHIPS SLOW REAPPOINTMENTS
House Democrats held up the reappointment of two Hampton Roads judges Tuesday because of their memberships in all-white country clubs.Virginia Appeals Judge Joseph Baker of Norfolk, a member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, and Virginia Beach Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge Fred Aucamp, a member of the Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, were bypassed for renomination Tuesday when Democrats caucused to nominate judges.
Baker's reappointment may hinge on whether Dr. Lunzy Britt, medical director of the shock trauma center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and chief of the division of trauma surgery and critical care at the Medical College of Hampton Roads, breaks the color barrier at the Norfolk club.
