USE FOREIGN AID TO EDUCATE OUR YOUTH
THE FRONT-PAGE story Jan. 14, "Va. students turned away," blames the state-budget shortfall, which has cut an average of $8 million a year from community-college funding since the 1989-90 fiscal year.I may agree the state is at fault to a degree, but I'm also thinking this blame could be placed on federal funding to the state for education. How many times have we read or heard of the millions and billions of dollars spent on, loaned or given away to foreign countries?
Israel wants loan guarantees for billions of dollars to help resettle Russian immigrants in their country. Does anyone know why this has become a problem for the United States of America? The taxpayers of this country need to wake up and see why we are in an economic slump: Our money is going to other countries and not being used for our own who need it here.
We need to use this money for the most important products we have, our young men and women. They can give more back to our own country than any foreign investment could, if we spend this money to help them better educate themselves. DANNY L. BOOTHE CLOVERDALE
