OPEN LEADERS' EYES TO ECONOMIC LOSS

WHEN YOU CRANK up your foreign car, please remember the death camps of Germany and Pearl Harbor. Maybe say a prayer for the thousands of jobs lost by American auto makers.

During December, I was in a temporary store that sold only Christmas goods; none of the merchandise was made in the U.S.A.

MCA, the Japanese-owned company, also owns the copyright to the song made popular by Lee Greenwood during Desert Storm, "God Bless the U.S.A."

Our president made an infrequent stop in Washington for Christmas and said, "I can not explain the public's pessimism about the economy." The local Virginia Employment Commission Office was open all day on Jan. 20, a national holiday - enough said.

Martin Luther King had a dream. I have an ongoing dream: Give us a leader who will call on millions of Americans to go to Washington and encircle the White House and congressional buildings, chanting: "Open your eyes to governmental waste and stop our economic weight loss." TED H. KEY ROANOKE
