FARRAR, CLAUDE E.

Claude E. Farrar, age 69, of Roanoke, died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was a retired certified public accountant having spent over 20 years with R.L. Persinger & Co. in its Roanoke, Covington and Staunton offices. He also previously served as assistant vice president for taxes for Danriver, Inc., Greenville, S.C. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, and served as a member of the Latters Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Jamestown Society. During World War II Mr. Farrar served in the 87th Infantry in the European Theater of Operations. Surviving are his wife, Frances Batten Farrar; two sons and daughters-in-law, William B. and Laura M. Farrar, Columbia, S.C.; Steven E. and Lee J. Farrar, Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren, Samuel Gary Farrar; Steven Burrell Farrar; Frances Haley Farrar; Robert Batten Farrar; Margaret Jordan Farrar; one brother, Omah P. Farrar, Clinton, Miss.; one sister, Maude Elizabeth Hydrick, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Va., Charlottesville, Va. or to a favorite charity. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday at Monticello Memory Gardens, Charlottesville, Va. by the Rev. James A. Hain. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke.
