Westmoreland Coal Co.Westmoreland Coal Co., a Philadelphia-based producer and marketer of coal with operations in Western Virginia, on Wednesday reported a $13.4 million loss for 1991, equal to $1.62 a share, compared to profit of $12.5 million, or $1.51 a share, in 1990. Revenues last year were $568.4 million, 3 percent higher than $551.4 million in 1990.
For the fourth quarter, Westmoreland said revenues rose 3.9 percent to $141 million from $135.6 million. The quarterly loss was $7.4 million, or 89 cents per share, compared to earnings of $847,000, or 10 cents per share, in the 1990 quarter.
Georgia-Pacific
Georgia-Pacific Corp., an Atlanta-based forest-products company with operations in Bedford County, on Wednesday reported a 1991 net loss of $142 million, or $1.65 per share, which includes $87 million of after-tax gains on asset sales and a one-time after-tax charge of $63 million for accounting changes. Net income in 1990 was $365 million, or $4.28 per share.
Sales in 1991 were $11.5 billion, compared with 1990 sales of $12.7 billion.
Georgia-Pacific also reported a net loss of $67 million, or 78 cents per share, for the fourth quarter compared with 1990 fourth-quarter income of $62 million or 74 cents per share.
