FLOYD SCHOOLS CAN SEEK BONDS
The Floyd County Board of Supervisors has approved the county School Board's request to seek $390,000 through a Virginia Public School Authority bond issue. The vote Tuesday night was 3-2, with Chairman Howard Dickerson and board newcomer Edsel Duncan voting in the opposition.
Most of the money - about $240,000 - would be used for building an auxiliary gym. The rest would go for site and parking lot improvements at the county's six schools.
The supervisors still most hold a public hearing on the bond issue Feb. 18 starting at 1:30 p.m.
Both boards had to pass resolutions by Feb. 14. The School Board passed a similar one Jan. 13.
Also Tuesday, the supervisors reappointed Hugh Vest to a four-year term on the Public Service Authority.
