THE PEOPLE COLUMN

Liza Minnelli has been granted an uncontested divorce from her third husband, artist Mark Gero.

The 45-year-old singer and actress charged that Gero abandoned their 12-year marriage more than a year ago. She was divorced Monday.

Anita Hill, the University of Oklahoma law professor who accused Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment, will appear on Sunday's edition of "60 Minutes." The interview with correspondent Ed Bradley will be one of Hill's first public comments since the end of Thomas' confirmation hearings.

Bob Denver says he mimicked his 4-year-old son in creating Gilligan, the goofy star of "Gilligan's Island."

"Those were 4-year-old things I was doing on stage," said the 57-year-old actor, who was in Chattanooga, Tenn., for an appearance at Southern College.

Denver said he has mixed feelings about the phenomenal success in reruns of the 1960s sitcom. He said he doesn't get any residual payments, and the show hurts his career. "If it's not a Gilligan-type part, they're not going to call me up."

Entertainment Weekly tells how some celebrities paid their dues and their bills before hitting it big:

Jon Bon Jovi: Chased dust bunnies with a broom at the Record Plant recording studio in New York.

Mariah Carey: Checked hats and waited on tables in more than 20 New York restaurants.

Sinead O'Connor: Was a singing kiss-o-gram French maid in Dublin in 1985.

Luther Vandross: In 1973, he was a defective-merchandise clerk for S&H trading stamps.
