STATE OKS STANDARDS FOR TOXICITY IN WATER
The state Water Control Board has approved regulations that set pollution standards to help control toxic substances in Virginia waters. The regulations adopted Tuesday apply to more than 100 toxicity standards for 66 chemical pollutants and are intended to protect human health and aquatic life.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency had set a Feb. 19 deadline for setting standards.
The board has initiated the public hearing process that will permit permanent adoption of the regulations in March.
