TREASURER ALWAYS LISTENED TO PROBLEMS
RECESSIONS make paying any bill hard, but I have been faced with the same situation as Mike Helms (letter, Jan. 24), not only during a slump but when the economy was in good shape. Alfred C. Anderson, treasurer of Roanoke County, has always listened to my problems and was very genuine in working with me, and he never turned a deaf ear.Mr. Anderson was most understanding and very sympathetic, as he would have been if Mr. Helms had talked to him. It is unfortunate that we don't have more persons like Alfred Anderson in government positions; then this country would not be in the shape it is today.
True enough, everybody has to pay taxes, but Mr. Helms should have taken the initiative to seek help from Mr. Anderson instead of trying to blacken his name. I find it amazing that when we have good people in government positions as Alfred Anderson, we are quick to ridicule. CALLIE TWINE SIMMONS President, T&S Janitorial Service SALEM
