PLAY TIME: "White Money," a play by Julie Jensen, opens tonight at Mill Mountain Theatre's Theatre B in Roanoke.It is the second production in this year's Norfolk Southern Festival of New Works. It will continue through Feb. 8.
The play is described as a rowdy comedy dealing with media manipulation and Middle American values. In 1990, it won an award from the Kennedy Center's Fund for New American Plays.
Show time on Friday and Saturday nights is 8 o'clock. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights it's 7:30. Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 2.

VENERABLE: The Preservation Hall Jazz Band will perform Wednesday night at 8 at Jackson Memorial Hall of Virginia Military Institute in Lexington.
The New Orleans group will present marches, quadrilles, blues, spirituals and ragtime tunes.

RINGS: The Kazim Shrine Circus opens tonight at 8 at the Roanoke Civic Center coliseum. The Royal Hanneford Circus is the attraction, and Shriners' charitable causes are the beneficiaries.
The shows will continue Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 and 6 p.m.
Tickets range from $3 to $8.\
CABIN FEVER? Here's the cure. The Salem Jaycees are having a Winter Maddness Benefit Concert tonight at 7 at the Salem Civic Center. Cimmaron, the Kings and the Kings Rhythm and Blues Revue with Joe Yates will be the entertainment.
Admission is $3. No one under 21 will be allowed in.
The bulk of the proceeds will go to three charities: Habitat for Humanity, the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Roanoke Valley and Total Action Against Poverty.\
BIG NAMES: Bill Monroe, the King of Bluegrass, will perform in concert Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Appomattox County High School Auditorium.
Jim and Jesse and the the Bluegrass Boys, and the Virginia Boys, also will appear.
The concert is sponsored by the Appomattox County High School Athletic Boosters, with proceeds going to the county's school athletic programs.

VARIED TALENTS: Concert artists from around the area will contribute their gifts to the Rebecca Orr Memorial Concert tonight at 8 in Squires Recital Salon at Virginia Tech.
The event raises money for the scholarship fund of the Virginia Music Teachers Association. It will feature works for solo piano, voice and piano, saxophone and piano, and violin and piano.
Admission is $5 for the general public, $3 for students and senior citizens and $10 for families. Tickets will be available at the door. Call 231-5200 for information.\
PRAISE: Newsong, a contemporary Christian group, will play tonight at 7 at the Roanoke Civic Center.
From Atlanta, the band's latest release is "Living Proof." Its 1989 release, "Light Your World," was nominated for a Dove award.
Doors open at 6 p.m. A $3 offering is requested and an offering will be taken.
Another Christian group, Glad, will perform Saturday night at 8 at Cameron Hall of VMI in Lexington. Call 464-7207.\ JAZZ, ETC: Sticks and Stones, a jazz duo, will play tonight at 8 at the Prism Coffeehouse in Charlottesville, and Bryan Bowers, renowned virtuoso of the autoharp, will play there Saturday night at 8.

LUNCH BUNCH: Each Wednesday in February, First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke will have noontime organ concerts by Donita Moore, Tom Baugh and Robert Chapman.
On Wednesday, Baugh and Chapman will present organ duos of works by Beethoven, Hancock, Rutter, Saint-Saens and others.
The concerts begin at 12:05. Admission is free.\
