WYTHE COUNTY ALSO HAS CHESS PROGRAM

YOUR EDITORIAL "Chess puts Pulaski on the map" (Jan. 22) was interesting and quite on the mark. Chess is a participant sport, not a spectator sport.

You may be interested to know that Wythe County also has a chess program. While we have not won any national championships and do not expect to in the immediate future, our children are developing self-confidence, self-esteem and foresight. We had 54 players in our November tournament and expect 40 or more at our "January" tournament on Feb. 1 at Fort Chiswell. FRANKLIN M. BAKER WYTHEVILLE
