NEW RIVER PEOPLE IN BUSINESS
The New River Valley Association of Realtors recently presented awards to individuals and businesses for dedication, professionalism and community involvement.\ JOE JONES, broker, vice president and co-owner of Raines Real Estate Inc. Better Homes and Gardens, was named the 1991 Realtor of the Year.
\ LINDA ROSENBERG DEEMER, an associate broker with Raines Real Estate Inc. Better Homes and Gardens, was the 1991 Sales Associate of the Year and received the Code of Ethics Award for 1991. She also was named the first woman president of the Montgomery County Rotary in 1991.
Local companies named 1991 Honor Firms by the Realtors are: MARYLOU LTD. REALTOR in Blacksburg, CENTURY 21 COMMONWEALTH PROPERTIES INC. in Blacksburg, OWENS & CO. REALTORS, and RAINES REAL ESTATE INC. BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS.
\ DAVID W. GRIFFITHS has been promoted to president of Olver Inc., an environmental engineering consulting firm with offices in Blacksburg and Roanoke.
Griffiths, who holds a doctorate in physical organic chemistry from Washington University, joined Olver in 1988 as director of the technical services division. He was director of research and technology in the Olin Water Services Division of Olin Corp. in Kansas.
\ JOHN W. OLVER, former president of Olver Inc., will become chief executive officer.
\ PETER SEITZ has been named general legal counsel of the First National Bank of Christiansburg and will be an in-house attorney. Seitz, a native of Fairmont, received his law degree from Washington and Lee University and is a member of the American, Virginia and Roanoke bar associations.
\ DEBORAH WOOD DOBBINS has become a partner in the law firm of Gilmer, Sadler, Ingram, Sutherland & Hutton in Pulaski. Dobbins received her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and was a law clerk for the United States District Court before joining the local firm in 1984.
Dobbins, who specializes in workers compensation and labor law, is president of the Pulaski County Bar Association and a member of several law associations. Her husband is Pulaski County Sheriff Ralph Dobbins.
There have been management changes at the family-owned Wade's Food Inc., based in Christiansburg. SCOTT WADE has been promoted to operations manager of Wade's Super Markets and Deli Marts; GREG WADE has been promoted to head buyer and merchandising manager of Wade's Super Markets and Deli Marts; and DAN MAENZA, vice president of operations, is exploring future business opportunities.\ LOWELL E. WADE remains president of the company.
Dr. PAUL A. OLSON of Pearisburg has been named a fellow in the American College of Physicians, a medical specialty society.
Olson, who is affiliated with Giles Memorial Hospital, is a specialist in internal medicine and geriatrics and has been in private practice in Pearisburg for almost eight years. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville and earned his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina.
\ FRANKLYN H. MORENO, marketing director for the New River Valley Economic Development Alliance in Dublin, was elected chairman of The Virginia Team, a group of 25 member organizations that work to attract new investment to the state.
\ THOMAS W. DIGIULIAN, an engineer-in-training for Anderson & Associates Inc. in Blacksburg, has become a licensed land surveyor in Virginia. A civil engineer, DiGiulian joined the company in 1987 and works on the transportation team.
\ PEGGY WINTERS, a certified nursing assistant at Heritage Hall nursing home in Blacksburg, was named employee of the quarter by her co-workers. She has been with the company for three years.
\ DEBBIE SULLIVAN, director of activities at Heritage Hall nursing home, and\ JANICE O'BRIEN, the activities assistant, were honored during this month's National Activity Professionals Week with a breakfast reception and a party. They are in charge of scheduling activities, organizing volunteers and recording the residents' interactions and progress.
\ FREDERICK M. KELLERMAN JR. has joined the law firm of Long, Long and Tillar in Blacksburg. He received his law degree from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and was a staff attorney for Southern Title Insurance Corp.
