VIRGINIA HAMMERS DUKE 81-54
Heather Burge scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures as second-ranked Virginia struggled with its field-goal shooting but romped to an 81-54 basketball victory over Duke in ACC basketball Saturday night. The Cavaliers (18-1 overall, 8-1 ACC) hit 44 percent of their field-goal attempts (16-of-36) in the first half. Yet, Virginia jumped to a 21-9 lead in the first nine minutes because Duke's shooting was worse. The Blue Devils (11-7, 3-5) made six of their 30 shots in the first half and trailed 42-19 at intermission.
Virginia went scoreless for a four-minute stretch of the second half, but Duke reduced a 33-point deficit only to 26 in that drought. Dena Evans and Tammi Reiss made back-to-back 3-pointers to increase the lead to 32 with three minutes left.
Reiss scored 15 points for UVa, and Evans made four 3-pointers to get 14 points. Dawn Staley had 12 points and Heidi Burge 10 points and eight rebounds.

CONWAY, S.C. - Radford knocked off Big South foe Coastal Carolina for its sixth straight victory.
The Highlanders (12-7, 6-0) got double-figure scoring from four players. Shannon Wilkey led the way with 18 points, Patrinda Toney added 16, Tammie Crown chipped in 14 and Becky Harden had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Radford, which has won nine consecutive games against Big South teams, shot 50 percent (27-of-54).
Tulane Virginia Tech NEW ORLEANS - For the second time in a week and third
time this season, the Hokies lost a starter to a left-knee injury.
Senior point guard Phyllis Tonkin went down with Tech leading 43-39 and 12 minutes to go. A Tech spokesman said she could have a sprained knee, but it could be more serious. Last week, Dayna Sonovick was lost for the season because of torn ligaments in her left knee and Sue Logsdon remains out with a knee injury.
After Tonkin was sidelined, Tulane (6-11, 2-4) rallied behind the shooting of Keisha Johnson, who had 21 points in the second half and 27 all together.
Tonkin scored 12 first-half points, including two 3-pointers, to help the Hokies to a 31-27 halftime lead. Tech retained the lead until Tonkin got hurt.
Junior Lisa Griffith led the Hokies (6-10, 1-4), who played with as many as five freshmen on the floor, with 19 points. V
