Folk artist on exhibit

An exhibit of work by folk artist Howard Finster opens Friday at Studios on the Square.

The show will include prints, paintings and cutouts. The prints will be for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Mountain Lake Workshop Foundation and the XYZ Gallery in Blacksburg.

Finster lives and works in Summerville, Ga., and is one of the best-known folk artists in the United States.

The exhibit will be in place through March 4. There will be an opening reception at 7 p.m. Friday.

Arts and crafts festival

Applications are being accepted for the 18th annual Hungry Mother Arts and Crafts Festival to be held July 17-19 at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion.

The festival is sponsored by the Art League of Marion, Smyth County Chamber of Commerce and Virginia Division of State Parks.

All media will be represented in the works of 100 artists and craftsmen. First-time entrants must include a photo of their work.
