CLINTON SHOULD GET DEMOCRATS' NOD
MY HUSBAND and I support Bill Clinton for the Democratic nomination for president.
I have known Bill since our public school days in Hot Springs, Ark. I respect his integrity, ability and intelligence. His gubernatorial record and involvement in national political organizations confirm our respect for his ability.
As chairman of the Democratic Governor's Conference and his peers' choice as the nation's most effective governor, he is aware of major domestic problems and has initiated policies alleviating them. In Arkansas he is called an education governor and has implemented many innovative educational reforms.
Being in the middle class, Bill is concerned with its plight and shares its values, proposing a tax cut for the middle class and a comprehensive national health plan. He believes all should share the burden; while government should help those in need, it may expect certain standards of behavior (or public service) in return.
With a faltering economy, deficits, homelessness, joblessness, foreign competition and an uncaring president, we need someone who has demonstrated a tireless dedication to finding solutions, can face the issues, and has innovative answers. With Super Tuesday approaching, Virginians examining Bill Clinton's credentials will likely conclude he is the candidate for Virginia and the nation. GAIL MARTIN MONTUORI RADFORD
