ALLISON LEADS CAMELS PAST HIGHLANDERS
Roanoke native Lisa Allison scored a career-high 26 points to lead Campbell to a 100-77 Big South Conference upset victory over Radford on Monday night.Allison, who played at Cave Spring High School, scored 17 points in the second half as the Lady Camels (11-7 overall, 5-1 Big South) pulled away. Laurie Hood added 19 points and Shonta Tabourn scored a career-high 18 for Campbell.
Radford (12-8, 6-1) saw its six-game winning steak ended and fell into a first-place tie with the Camels. Patrinda Toney led the Highlanders with a career-high 34 points.
\ Southern Mississippi 86, Virginia Tech 55: At Hattiesburg, Miss., after the young Hokies (6-11, 1-5) tied the score 30-30 less than two minutes into the second-half, the Golden Eagles launched a 56-25 run that secured the Metro Conference victory.
Southern Miss shot a season high of 58 percent and hit 36 of 62 field-goal attempts, mostly on inside baskets in the second half. Janice Felder had 29 points on 13-for-15 shooting, Tanya Bullock had 22 points and center Vera Perry had 20 on 9-for-11 shooting.
Jenny Root had 12 points to lead Tech, and freshman forward Christi Osborne had 10 points. Tisa Brown led the Hokies with six rebounds, five on offense.
With three of their five regular starters out with knee injuries, the Hokies are starting three freshman - Osborne, power forward Angela Donnell and Lisa Leftwich, who made her first start at point guard Monday night.
