MAN HURT IN ROBBERY DIES FROM INJURIES

A 64-year-old Roanoke man died Friday as a result of being beaten during a Jan. 13 robbery on Shenandoah Avenue, a state medical examiner said Monday.

Paul Reginald Meador of Trout Avenue was admitted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with severe head injuries after he was robbed outside of a restaurant.

Dr. William Massello, the medical examiner, said Meador developed pneumonia following the beating.

"Many people with brain injuries develop pneumonia," he said.

Roanoke police are waiting on Massello's report before deciding on proceeding with a homicide investigation. Police were already looking into the robbery.

Meador was able to describe his assailant to police before he lost consciousness.

Police said Meador was walking to the entrance of the restaurant when a man approached him and said, "Give me your money."

The man beat Meador in the head and face before removing his wallet and fleeing, police said.
