INSTEAD OF A BAN, DON'T BUY PRODUCT
THIS LETTER responds to the editorial "Candy smokes" Jan. 14. The amount of goods aimed at children and their parents is astonishing. Everything we buy as consumers is a vote for a product, a retailer, a wholesaler and a manufacturer. If parents feel so strongly about this issue that they are compelled to take action, I feel they should stop short of asking for a ban. They should band together as consumers and "vote" for or against this and other products with their powerful dollars.
Manufacturers produce only what sells. Rack space in stores is often at a premium, so retailers want to invest only in goods they feel will sell quickly. Once an item ceases to sell, it will be replaced by hopefully a more acceptable item. BETH LANCASTER DUBLIN
