BOYS CHARGED WITH MAKING BOMB THREATS

Two Blacksburg boys have been charged with making bomb threats to three schools in town and placing an obscene phone call to a fourth school, police said Tuesday.

Blacksburg High, Gilbert Linkous Elementary and Margaret Beeks Elementary schools received phone calls on Jan. 23 advising that bombs had been placed in the school. No explosive devices were found.

On the same day, a Blacksburg Middle School employee received an obscene phone call.

Police have charged two boys, ages 12 and 13, who are students at Blacksburg Middle School. A March 27 court date has been set.

Clinton LeGette, Blacksburg High School principal, said most students were not in the school when the threat was received because they had left after taking exams.

Ray VanDyke, principal at Gilbert Linkous, said the school was evacuated for 30 to 45 minutes until police checked the building.
