CROATIAN STRIFE TOPIC OF RADFORD TALK
Croatian native Frano Jelencic, Radford University's artist-in-residence, will discuss the strife in his homeland today at 8 p.m. in Heth Ballroom.
Jelencic, who last visited Croatia this summer as the civil war erupted, will discuss the political situation in Yugoslavia from a geographic and historical perspective. He also will review the U.S. government's position on the conflict.
Jelencic left Yugoslavia in 1952 and moved to the United States four years later. He returned to Yugoslavia in the 1970s to become director of the Croatian National Theatre Ballet, but left again after becoming disenchanted with the government. He joined the Radford faculty in 1979.
Virginia Tech student Irislav Drezga, also from Croatia, will also participate in tonight's discussion, which will be repeated at Virginia Tech later this month.
