PIANIST TO LECTURE AND PERFORM RECITAL
Pianist Paul-Andre Bempechat will deliver a lecture, perform a recital and conduct a master class during a residency at Roanoke College next week.He will lecture Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. on the subject: "Is Schubert not the Most Flowering Province in the Empire of Beethoven?"
Tuesday at 8 p.m., Bempechat will present a recital consisting of the last three sonatas, Op. 109-111, of Beethoven.
Bempechat's master class for piano students will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. More information about it is available from the Olin Hall box office at 375-2333.
All events will take place in Olin Recital Hall and are open to the public. The lecture and master class are free. Tickets for the recital are $5 for the general public and $3 for senior citizens and students. They can be purchased at the door or ordered in advance by calling the box office.
Bempechat is a graduate of The Juilliard School and the Sorbonne. He lives in Boston and is completing his doctoral thesis in musicology at Boston University.
The pianist tours the United States and North America twice annually. His 1992-93 season will include performances in Brussels, Dublin, London, Prague and Oslo.
