RADFORD U. TO HOST HONORS CONFERENCE
Radford University will host the 1992 Southern Regional Honors Council Conference, the first time the event has been held in Virginia.The April 2-4 event is expected to draw more than 600 students and faculty from Southern colleges and universities.
Douglas Foard, executive secretary of the Phi Beta Kappa national honors society, will be keynote speaker. The theme of the conference is "On Perspectives, On Discovery."
Several other speakers will make presentations about how the Roanoke area has been affected over the years by various events such as popular culture, the Civil War, coal mining and railroads.
Those speakers include Marshall Fishwick, a Virginia Tech professor of communications and humanities; John Kern, director of the Roanoke Regional Preservation Office; and Stan Broski, executive director of the Roanoke Transportation Museum.
Anndrena Belcher, a storyteller, writer and musician, will read literary selections, tell stories and folktales and perform dances and songs native to the Southern states and Appalachian region.
