TIRE TROUBLE JUST THE START FOR FUGITIVE

Not only was a 22-year-old Tennessee man injured when the car he was driving had a blowout and flipped at least six times, but then he was arrested as a fugitive.

Brian Deweese of Blountville, Tenn., was under police guard at Wythe County Community Hospital.

He was taken there with head injuries after the accident Sunday night.

Deweese has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and faces additional felony charges in Florida.

He will be held for Florida authorities.

Trooper Don Brooks said a rear tire blew out as the car was traveling south on Interstate 81 about 10 p.m.

The car went out of control, ran up an embankment and flipped over.

Deweese and a passenger, Gina White of Bristol, Tenn., were thrown out of the car.

Neither was wearing a seat belt.

White sustained several broken bones, including a fracture of the back.

She was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Another passenger, Nikki Strouth of Honaker, was wearing a seat belt and escaped serious injury.
