BUSH BUDGET SLASHES VIRGINIA MILITARY FUNDS

President Bush has recommended drastically cutting federal military construction dollars to Virginia in fiscal 1993, but a lawmaker hopes the state's share will rise in the next fiscal year.

Bush's budget plan recommends cutting Virginia's share of military construction funds to $55.1 million, down from $240.8 million this fiscal year.

Rep. Norman Sisisky, D-Petersburg, said he also hopes to fill a "critical need" at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in fiscal 1994 for railroad tracks so cranes can move between piers. - Associated Press
