McLAIN, HELEN H.

Miss Helen Hewitt McLain, age 97, of Vinton, died Tuesday evening, February 4, 1992. She was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railway's Telegraph and Signals Department with 49 years service. She was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church and the National Railroad Business Women's Association. Surviving are a sister, Jane M. Nance, Vinton; a niece, Rachel N. Layman, Roanoke; nephews, Edgar F. Howell, Baton Rouge, La.; David H. Howell, Portsmouth, Va.; great-nieces, Rebecca Kendrick, Sarah Howell, Linda Layman; great-nephews, Michael Layman, Mark Layman, Mark Howell. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 7 with the Rev. Byron R. Wilkinson and the Rev. Dr. George Wesley Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday.
