CHARLIE WITTEN has been appointed branch director of Olsten HealthCare, a personnel service that specializes in in-home nursing, hospital staffing and in-home medical care.

\ DRS. WILLIAM WATSON PASLEY and JAMES MICHAEL VASCIK of Roanoke recently became fellows of the American College of Surgeons.

Candidates must be graduates of an approved medical school, have completed advanced training in one of the 13 surgical specialties recognized by the college and have practiced at the same location for at least two years.

They must further demonstrate ethical conduct and good character and must be approved by three-fourths of the college's board of regents.

Pasley is a gynecologist, and Vascik is a neurosurgeon.

\ WILLIAM DAVID NEELEY has been promoted to communications officer in corporate operations and technology at C&S Sovran Corp. He works at the Western Operations Center on Airport Road. Neeley is in charge of installation and maintenance of computer and telephone systems in the Western and Mountain regions and parts of the Skyline and Southside regions for Sovran Bank Consumer, Commercial and Trust Division and for C&S/Sovran Mortgage Corp.

\ HERMAN L. LOWE of 4852 Warrior Drive, Salem, recently retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after almost 34 years of service.

Lowe was Salem District equipment and facilities manager. He joined the department in 1957 as a mechanic helper. He also worked in the Bristol and Fredericksburg districts.

\ DAVID W. AMOS and DAWN K. FREEMAN recently completed a two-week course at the IDS Financial Services Learning Center in Minneapolis, qualifying them as accredited personal financial planners.

\ JESSE FIELDS has been named the agent in charge of Salem and Montgomery County for Bedford Mutual Insurance Co.

Fields, a Salem resident, has more than 30 years experience in the insurance business.

\ M. GLENN BOLT of 5298 Glenvar Heights Blvd., Salem, recently retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after more than 29 years of service.

Bolt joined the department in 1958 as a skilled laborer and held the position of environmental manager for the 12-county Salem District at his retirement.
