CRAIG OK'S SETTLEMENT IN FAIRVIEW HOME SUIT
The Craig County Board of Supervisors has accepted a proposed settlement in a lawsuit stemming from change in ownership of a Pulaski County home for the physically, emotionally or mental handicapped.
Craig County is one of six owners of the 65-bed Fairview Home and has two residents living there. The suit resulted after Smyth County decided to sell its 23 percent share in the home, and Craig and the other owners, the city of Radford and Pulaski, Montgomery and Giles counties, couldn't agree on how much to pay Smyth.
Under the proposed settlement, Smyth County will get $150,00. Craig will pay $10,908 and will increase its ownership to 7.2 percent.
So far, only Craig and Smyth counties have agreed on the settlement.
The settlement is fair to Craig County, said Zane Jones, supervisors' chairman.
On another matter, the supervisors authorized a resolution to congratulate Fred Altizer, former Roanoke resident engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation, on his promotion to Salem District supervisor. The resolution also will express the supervisors' appreciation to Altizer for his work in handling the county's highway concerns.
