IN SCHOOL

ELLENE MAGEE of Roanoke, a student in Hollins College's Horizon program for adult women, has been selected to serve as a student representative on the College Board's Advisory Committee on Adult Learning Services.

The committee makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees concerning the effectiveness and accessibility of the college's adult education programs.

\ "POWER FROM THIS AIR," an education video series, recently was donated to Roanoke public schools by Gardner-Denver Mining & Construction Division.

The series tells the history of wind energy from windmills to modern computer-aided engineering systems. It is part of Science Screen Report, a monthly program produced with the National Science Teachers Association.

\ THE REV. NEIL STANLEY STEVENS, son of Lucy Stevens and the late James T. Stevens of Roanoke, recently received a doctor of theology degree in education from International Seminary in Plymouth, Fla.

Stevens is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and Southern Illinois University.

\ LT. COL. JAMES KARR, the ROTC instructor at Patrick Henry High School, has been appointed coordinator of Area 8 Special Olympics.

Karen Barr and Deborah Penley are co-coordinators for the city of Roanoke.

Area 8 includes the counties of Franklin, Botetourt, Craig and Roanoke and the cities of Roanoke and Salem.

\ ANGELA HILL, daughter of Jack and Karen Trout of Roanoke, has graduated from Central (S.C.) Wesleyan College with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.

\ REBECCA C. CLARK, an assistant professor in the nursing education program at the College of Health Sciences, recently passed the American Nurses' Association certification examination. She also completed requirements for the credential of Medical Surgical Clinical Specialist.

This credential recognizes knowledge and experience in the specialty area beyond basic licensure. Clark also recently completed Advanced Cardiac Life Support training.

Clark, who lives in Salem, teaches medical-surgical nursing.

\ REBECCA ROSS, an anatomy, physiology and biology instructor at Cave Spring High School and an adjunct instructor at Virginia Western Community College, has been selected by the University of Rochester Medical Center Biotechnology Department in New York to be the master teacher and coordinator of the Biotechnology Instruction Resource Network.

Ross will be an editor of a manual on biotechnology and immunology labs and materials for high school and college teachers.
