THATCHER VISIT: BUSH-LEAGUE STORY

AS A LONG-TIME newspaper reader brought up on the old New York Herald-Tribune and later The New York Times - and now the Roanoke paper - I can honestly say that the story "Lady calls VMI to attention" (Jan. 25) wins the prize for bush-league reporting.

The late Clark Mollenhoff, a friend in the past, must be boiling somewhere; he was an objective man. How I miss him! His critique of this would have smoked. JOHN L. COUPER LEXINGTON
