MONEY SPENT IN SPACE, DENIED HERE

I WONDER if someone out there could tell me why our government can spend billions of dollars to send roundworms, fruit flies and frog eggs up into space for no reason at all and say they don't have the money to help people. There are homeless; there are elderly people who can't buy the medicine they need to stay alive because its too expensive. It's so hard to understand. I think we need a change in our government leaders, real soon. ANNIE DEAL ROANOKE
