RADFORD NAMES BASEBALL ASSISTANT
Lew Kent has joined the Radford University baseball staff as an assistant coach.Kent will be head coach Scott Gines' chief recruiter at Radford and will work on infield and outfield defense, hitting, baserunning and scouting.
Kent has spent the past two years as an assistant coach at North Carolina State. Kent, a native of La Mesa, Calif., went to N.C. State after three years in the Cleveland Indians' organization as a player. He played for Kinston's 1988 Carolina League championship squad and advanced to the AA level Williamsport Bills before turning to coaching in 1989.
At N.C. State, Kent was a batting instructor. The Wolfpack was 96-40 during Kent's two years as an assistant to head coach Ray Tanner. This past season, N.C. State advanced to the East Regional finals of the NCAA Tournament before bowing to Florida in extra innings.
