GARLAND HELPS COUGARS NOTCH EASY VICTORY

Terri Garland scored her 1,000th career point Thursday night as Pulaski County swamped Patrick Henry 63-22 in a Roanoke Valley District girls' basketball game.

Garland had 12 points and left the game after reaching her scoring milestone.

Cindy Martin and Sonya Davidson picked up the slack for Pulaski County, scoring 18 and 12 points respectively.

The Cougars (13-3 overall, 7-2 RVD) led 33-10 at halftime and never looked back.

ROCKY MOUNT - The Knights ran their record to 16-0 by taking control in the second and third quarters of the Roanoke Valley District game.

After a sizzling first quarter ended with Cave Spring up 19-17, the Knights seized command by outscoring the Eagles (5-12, 0-9) by 28 points in the next two periods.

Lisa Hodges led Cave Spring with 22 points and Kim Stewart chipped in 19. Franklin County got 20 points from Shannon Conley, who sank six 3-point field goals. Jennifer Bowyer added 15 points and Dawn Webb had 14.

\ Wednesday's boys' game

Blacksburg 63, Tazewell 48: At Blacksburg, after a slow start, the Indains outscored Tazewell by 21 points in the middle two quarters of a non-district boys' basketball game.

John Maher led Blacksburg (12-4) with a game-high 21 points. Darren Morton pitched in 11 points including a pair of 3-point shots. Tazewell (8-7) was paced by Mark Bezjak with 16.
