Anah Courtney Hedrick, age 98, of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, February 6, 1992, in a Salem, Virginia, health care center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney W. Hedrick and a son, S. Walter Hedrick. Mrs. Hedrick was an active member of the Corinth Lutheran Church, the Rural Retreat Garden Club, and the Rural Retreat Home Demonstration Club, as long as her health permitted. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mabel H. and Fred L. Crigger of Wytheville; Frieda H. and Alfred B. Greiner of Rural Retreat; a son and daughter-in-law, E. Calvin, Sr. and Jackie M. Hedrick of Roanoke; a devoted daughter-in-law, Mae C. Hedrick of Rural Retreat; one brother, Ralph R. Courtney of Wytheville; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 1992, from the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ed Schaack, Pastor Larry M. Bollinger, and the Rev. Dale Wyrick officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wytheville. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home or at the residence of Mae C. Hedrick at any time. The family sincerely requests that memorials be made to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Dept., the Rural Retreat Emergency Service, or the St. John Lutheran Church in Roanoke. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, is in charge of arrangements.
