TOWNSEND, JAMES R. JR.

James R. Townsend Jr., age 85 of 400 N. Boone St., Johnson City, Tenn., died Thursday, February 6, 1992, at the Asbury Center in Johnson City, Tenn. He was born in Plantersville, Va., and was the son of the late James R. and Mattie Whitfield Townsend Sr. He was a member of the Plantersville United Methodist Church and the Snowville Masonic Lodge #159 in Snowville, Va. He had resided in Charlotte, N. C. prior to moving to Johnson City, Tenn. in 1988. He also attended the Randolph Macon Military Academy and is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Allison and a sister, Mrs. Robert L. (Martha) McConnell. Surviving are two daughters, Donna Kirkpatrick Maddox, Kingsport, Tenn.; Martha Townsend Pendigo, Clarksville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Camille Pendigo, Clarksville, Tenn.; Will Pendigo, Clarksville, Tenn.; Carl Kirkpatrick III, Kingsport, Tenn. Graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 1992, at Cecils Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pulaski, Va. with the Rev. Larry Caylor officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in Pulaski, Va. Memorials may be made to the Fellowship Assistance Fund, C/O The Asbury Center, 400 N. Boone St., Johnson City, Tenn. 37604. Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home of Kingsport, Tenn. is in charge of arrangements.
