NAMES ON CAMPUS

JOHN LEVY, associate professor of urban affairs and planning, received the 1991 Excellence in Teaching Award from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies.

Levy, who joined the faculty in 1979, said he tries to "teach the material, am not overly formal in class and try to encourage class participation."

His students say his lectures are stimulating and he chooses key issues in urban economics.

Levy has written three books, including two textbooks. He was a planner and director of the Research and Economic Development Division of the Westchester County, N.Y., Department of Planning before earning a doctorate in urban public policy studies at New York University.

\ ELEANOR D. SCHLENKER, professor and head of the department of human nutrition and foods, received the Gerontological Nutritionists Outstanding Service Award at the American Dietetic Association's annual meeting in Dallas.

\ CAROL J. PFAFFLY, a doctoral candidate in the department of family and child development, received a Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation graduate fellowship for the 1991-92 academic year. She is serving an internship in Colorado.

\ JOY E. BLAKE, assistant professor of interior design, was elected to a two-year term as Southern regional chairwoman of the Interior Design Educators Council.

\ KHIDIR HILU, an associate biology professor, was named to the Scientist Placement Committee of Plant Protection with the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the agriculture and forestry subcommittee, as part of the Botanical Society of America Committee on Agenda 2000.

\ KLAUS D. ELGERT, an associate professor of biology, was elected to the editorial board of AIDS, a Philadelphia Science Group Publication that publishes the comprehensive annual 500-page summary "A Practical Synopsis of the International AIDS Conferences."

\ JOHN CAIRNS, university distinguished professor of environmental biology, was reappointed to the editorial advisory board of Aquatic Toxicology, an international journal.

\ DEAN CARTER, professor of sculpture in the art and art history department, had his wreath carving "Partridge in a Pear Tree" exhibited at the Southern Highlands Handicraft Guild Member's Christmas show in Asheville, N.C.

\ JOSEPH L. WIECZYNSKI, history professor, has been chosen second vice president of The American Catholic Historical Association. He is an expert in Russian history.

\ KEN MCCLEARY and PAMELA WEAVER, professors in the department of hotel, restaurant and institutional management, had an article published in The Cornell Hotel and Restaurant Administration Quarterly and another article accepted for publication in the Journal of Hospitality Research.

\ WEAVER and HEUNG CHOL OH, a doctoral candidate in the department of hotel, restaurant and institutional management, had an article accepted for publication in the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management.

\ LIBBY GUSTIN, KIMBERLE BADINELLI and NIGEL DAVIS, master's students in the department of hotel, restaurant and institutional management, had an article on senior travel published in Hotel & Motel Management magazine.

\ LAWRENCE GROSSMAN of the geography department had a paper published in Ecology of Food and Nutrition.

\ ROBERTA GREEN and GYORGYI VOROS of the English department had articles published in Philological Papers.

\ BRUCE PARKER, a biology professor, had an article published in the Journal of Freshwater Ecology.
