BILL SENT TO COMMISSION FOR STUDY; SMALL VICTORY, AND EFFORT WILL GO ON
In four return trips to Richmond - three in the past week - Frank Smusz has continued to lobby for House Bill No. 539, which on Friday was sent from the Committee on Corporations, Insurance and Banking to the governor's Special Advisory Commission on Mandated Health Insurance Benefits.Smusz called the development less than ideal but still a victory because the bill stays alive. Still, he said, it now will be a year before the commission completes its review of the legislation to determine whether it is legal and deserves an endorsement. Smusz said that is a year many women who need breast cancer treatment can't wait for.
Meanwhile, he plans to continue his efforts in lobbying for the legislation and will set his sights next on the 14-member advisory panel.
And any doubt he ever had, he said, has faded. His experience has left him inspired to do more. "I'm already thinking of things to introduce next year," he said.
