UVA PLAYERS HONORED AT FOOTBALL BANQUET
Quarterback Matt Blundin was named the University of Virginia's Outstanding Offensive Player for 1991 and defensive end Chris Slade was named the Outstanding Defensive Player at the annual Cavalier Football Club Banquet on Saturday night at University Hall.Also during the banquet, former UVa quarterback Shawn Moore's jersey No. 12 was retired. Moore, a three-year starter at Virginia and the 1990 Atlantic Coast Conference Football Player of the Year, is now a member of the NFL's Denver Broncos.
Other players receiving awards were offensive tackle Ray Roberts, defensive tackle Matt Quigley, tailback Terry Kirby and center Tim Samec.
Roberts was named the Outstanding Interior Lineman for the second year in a row; Quigley received the Joe Palumbo Award for self-sacrifice, dedication and enthusiasm; Kirby received the Speed Elliott Award for ability, sportsmanship and character; and Samec was honored as the Cavaliers' Most Improved Player. - Staff report
