GUN LIMIT LAW FAILS AGAIN

A Norfolk delegate's last-ditch attempt to limit handgun purchases to two a month failed Monday night in the House of Delegates.

Del. William Robinson, D-Norfolk, tried to graft his proposal onto another handgun-related bill, but the tactic was voted down 67-31. Two other versions of his proposal had died in separate committees over the last few days.

Among Southwest Virginia delegates, only Del. Clifton Woodrum, D-Roanoke, supported Robinson's proposal.

Originally Robinson had tried to limit all Virginians to buying only one gun a month.

Though Robinson's measure failed, the bill that he tried to amend received preliminary approval. That bill would require a gun buyer to present two forms of identification to prove in-state residence. Current law requires only a Virginia driver's license.

In other gun-related action, the House later gave preliminary approval to a bill that would make it a misdemeanor to sell, trade or barter any gun to a minor.
