N.C. TRUCK DRIVER KILLED IN I-81 WRECK

A North Carolina truck driver was killed in Rockbridge County early Tuesday morning when his tractor-trailer crashed on northbound Interstate 81 midway between Natural Bridge and Lexington.

James Booker Jr., 56, of Burlington, apparently fell asleep shortly after 1 a.m., state police reported. His truck swerved off the left side of the highway, broke through the guardrail and plunged into a wooded ravine.

Booker, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, police said.
