BRIEFLY PUT...

UNITED WAY of Roanoke Valley came nicely close to meeting its $4.7 million goal for the 1991 campaign. The total tallied up last month, $4.65 million, was 3.2 percent more than was raised in 1990 and only 1 percent short of the 1991 goal. Not bad for these times. For those who helped with the campaign, and who gave, congratulations. For those - roughly two-thirds of the valley's work force - who gave nothing, a little self-examination would be nice.
