RELIGION BRIEFS

PEACE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH soon will begin construction of a second modular building to provide six classrooms. The Bonsack-area new congregation has 88 active members who worship in a temporary structure at 4365 Cloverdale Road (U.S. Alternate 220). Permanent buildings will be erected after the highway in front of the church is widened, the Rev. Wilson Gunn, pastor, said.

\ A PULPIT EXCHANGE is scheduled Sunday in churches affiliated with the Buchanan Ministerial Association. The event annually emphasizes ecumenical cooperation and racial harmony.

\ MARANATHA FELLOWSHIP CHURCH, 2715 Green Ridge Road, has scheduled a marriage workshop and seminar Friday through Sunday. Marietta Walters of Callaway will lead the workshop, which begins at 7 p.m. Friday and continues with sessions Saturday and Sunday evenings at 6. Call 562-0075 for more information.

\ REVIVAL SERVICES will be in progress Monday through Feb. 21 at Garden of Prayer 7, Church of God in Christ. Elder Callie Richardson of Virginia Beach will preach nightly at the church at 3101 Cove Road N.W. Services of music and prayer will begin at 7:30 nightly.

\ BLACK HISTORY MONTH will be observed Sunday at Central Baptist Church, 1502 Staunton Ave. N.W. Peter Lewis will speak, and several choirs will be part of the program.

\ RACE RELATIONS SUNDAY will be observed Sunday with an exchange of pastors at Greene Memorial and St. Paul United Methodist churches. Participating are the Rev. Dr. Jerry Campbell and the Rev. Willie Butler.

\ THE REV. DR. JOHN D. COPENHAVER, a former Roanoker, has published a book, "Prayer and Social Responsibility in the Religious Thought of Douglas Steere." Copenhaver is a professor at Shenandoah University at Winchester. His book examines the life and thought of Steere, a 20th century Quaker theologian.

\ MINERAL SPRINGS BAPTIST CHURCH, east of Vinton, is registering children 3 to 5 years old for its preschool that will open in September. Renee Harris will direct the school, which will have sessions Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Call 890-4465 or 890-2483 for more information.
