DON'T SHIP TAXES OUT STATE-FUNDED PROJECTS SHOULD BE STATE-MANUFACTURED

IT SEEMS paradoxical to me for the state to want an increase in taxes when much of the taxes now received go out of state.

I recently heard a state politician comment that we needed to "jump start" the economy through construction. Yet our state politicians, as well as local politicians, apparently feel that Virginia's general contractors, architects, subcontractors and manufacturers are not qualified to handle state projects.

Why don't state-funded projects use state-manufactured products? Why don't state-funded projects use state-qualified companies, general contractors, architects and subcontractors? JIM E. CASH BUENA VISTA
