Parenting classes offered

Greenvale Nursery School in Roanoke is offering free parenting classes Thursday through March 19.

The classes will meet on Thursdays from 7-8:30 p.m. at the school on 627 Westwood Blvd. N.W. Free child care is available.

Bob Henderson with Children's Services of the Roanoke City Department of Social Services will discuss hard-to-manage children and teach parents how to recognize difficult children at an early age.

Deadline for registering is Tuesday.

Greenvale is also offering these classes: "Make and Take Puppetry Workshop" on March 18 (call 342-4716 to register; there is a 50-cents materials fee); "Involving the Young Child in Whole Language Activities" on April 15, and "Classroom Violence and Anger" on May 20.

\ Photographer's forum

Registrations are being accepted for the Feb. 24 Emmet Gowin Photographer's Forum at the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts.

Gowin will discuss the evolution of his imagery and his current ideas about photography, with illustrations from his work.

The Danville native teaches at Princeton University.

A selection of Gowin's photographs will be exhibited at the museum from March 5 through April 5.

The Feb. 24 forum will be in the museum's second-floor lecture hall at Center on Church. The fee is $20. Registration will be limited to 20.
