STATUE WAS REAL SUBJECT OF PHOTO
AS AN AMATEUR photographer, I often take pictures from certain angles to exclude extraneous objects that do not contribute to the overall compostion. Evidently this didn't occur to Cindy Pinkston when she photographed the police-training session. On the other hand, if I were a news photographer trying to create a story, I would have gotten closer to the statue, perhaps using a wide-angle lens to make it the dominant object in the picture. After all, it was the real subject of the photo, not those police recruits. CHARLES H. WARNER ROANOKE
